Welcome back to the Eats in Queens newsletter, happy first day of school, and so long, summer 2026.

Team EIQ took August off for some much-needed R&R. Laura and her family headed south to Brazil, Florida, and New Jersey; my family and I spent some quality time preparing for our son’s first year of college and the very long drive to get him there. After eating on the road for a week, I can honestly say there’s no place like Queens.

Today’s newsletter is all about catching up on happenings around town. Read on to learn about recent openings, restaurants working with Queens Together to feed veterans, food events to put on your calendar, and how your family or company can become sponsors of QT and our upcoming 5th annual International Food Expo (save the date for December 7).

In case you missed it, we shared a lot of our Queens-food content on Instagram this summer! Here are some of our most popular posts: Great Sandwiches, Astoria South Edition; Where to Eat Ecuadorian Food in Queens; and The New Halal Restaurants of Astoria (which we have new additions for: Om Wok, The Port of Peri Peri, Silk Road Bites, and the soon-to-open Hunchos).

Please note that EIQ will now be published twice a month. As always, please forward this email to anyone you know who loves food and Queens (they can sign up here). Till next time. —Jonathan Forgash, Queens Together founder; edited by Laura Siciliano-Rosen, Eat Your World

What’s New With QT

Once a month, we’ll share Queens Together news in addition to what’s happening in the Queens food scene. First we’ll remind our readers of QT’s three flagship programs: the Family Meal program, serving fresh, culturally appropriate produce for families at school food pantries; Feed a Veteran & Rally Point, providing meals and community events for veterans; and our small business support, which offers advocacy, development, and promotion for Queens restaurants (including this very newsletter!).

Become a sponsor: It’s been a tough year for food relief efforts. Government funding opportunities have disappeared, SNAP benefits have been cut, and food prices are higher than ever. Our neighbors and restaurant partners need your help. If you are able to donate to Queens Together, please do—no amount is too small! Even better, become a sponsor: We’re currently seeking Family Circle and corporate sponsorships for our annual budget and this year’s International Food Expo. Email jonathan@queenstogether.org and we will send you a sponsor package with details for individuals, families, and businesses.

Egg + oxtail for breakfast at Notable

And now for some updates:

Nick Green, owner of Notable in Astoria, has teamed up with QT’s Feed a Veteran program to provide a Korean War veteran in South Queens with freshly made Jamaican dinners. If you haven’t been to Notable yet, we suggest the egg and oxtail breakfast sandwich or the oxtail cheesesteak hero. You can thank us later.

Fuzi Pasta in Fresh Meadows served as the first meeting place for our new Rally Point program. Chef Franco prepared a special meal for our guests. Both veterans programs are in partnership with Hydro-Québec.

Queens Together is proud to announce we’ll be continuing our Family Meal program at P.S. 7Q Louis F. Simeone. Families will receive fresh produce at the school’s QT food pantry. The new restaurant partner will be announced soon.

QT continues its work to help fight human trafficking with posters to be distributed across NYC. Last year, we approached the Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) with this idea to help bring awareness to human trafficking and connect victims to the help they need. The posters are now available in a variety of languages and will be publicly displayed in businesses around NYC.
